Biography
SOPRANO EVA GHEORGHIU

American-Romanian Soprano Eva Gheorghiu is a graduate student of Guildhall School
of Music & Drama with Master degrees in both Music and Performance.
Eva’s most recent and notable performances include Sandman in Humperdinck’s
Hansel and Gretel with British Youth Opera (2021), Nedda in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci
with Aylesbury Opera (2020), as well as the soprano soloist in Elijah with the Banbury
Choral Society (2019). Eva has also recently been part of the Chorus for Tchaikovsky’s
Eugene Onegin at Opera Holland Park (2022), and was part of Rogue Opera’s online
concert series as a soloist.
Whilst at Guildhall, as a student of John Evans, she performed in various opera scenes
including roles such as Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Countess
(Le Nozze di Figaro), and Norina (Don Pasquale), as well as song recitals. During this
time Eva worked on a series of workshops with primary and secondary school children
on Mozart’s The Magic Flute for Longborough Festival Opera and later that same year
she performed as the soloist with LSO Brass and the London Symphony Chorus with
additional choirs in their Christmas Concert (2017) at the Barbican.
In spring of 2015, she graduated from The Juilliard School with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Music as a student of Edith Wiens. Whilst at Juilliard, Eva performed as Susanna in
Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and as Geraldine in Barber’s A Hand of Bridge. Whilst at
Juilliard, Eva was a soloist with The Olympia Symphony Orchestra and attended The
Franz-Schubert Institute in Baden bei Wien, Austria. In 2014, Eva attended Songfest in
Los Angeles, California, where she was made a SongFest Colburn Fellow and in 2016,
Eva won First Prize (Tier II) in the James Toland Vocal Arts Vocal Competition in
Oakland, California.
This summer, Eva will perform as Mistress Page in British Youth Opera’s new
production of Sir John in Love by Vaughan Williams.

Eva has been a recipient of the Cecilia Entner Scholarship, Edwina Eustis Endowed
Scholarship, Joan and Robert Arnow Scholarship, Mary E. Birsh Scholarship, P.J.
Hoyland Memorial Scholars, R. Maurice Boyd Scholarship for Vocal Studies, and the
William R. Hearst Scholarship at The Juilliard School. She has also been a proud
recipient of the Guildhall Scholar Award at Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
